With our extended fall we are wondering if the snow will ever arrive or better yet will the ground ever freeze. The ground did finally freeze this fall during the 2nd week in November and the snow soon followed with our first blanket of the white stuff arriving on November 16th. The putting greens were aerified on August 12 & 13 in preperation for the coming winter. Greens were last mowed at .320" in an effort to give the putting greens more leaf surface to build those precious carbohydrate reserves for the long winter ahead. We were able to aerify, seed, and topdress our tee boxes the week of August 19th. We had started aerifying our fairways too this fall and upon the weather cooling off we have suspended that for the season. We were able to get holes, 10,12,17, & 18 completed prior to the weather turning. We were pleased to have finally found it time to turn off the irrigation. Since the rain started to fall again on August, 31 we have measured 6.32" at the golf course. It is a sure welcome sight. The course went under cover in really great shape.
We were able to get the golf course rated to reflect our new tee boxes and new set of tees that were added 3 years ago. Tees are now Black, Blue, White, Green. The out of bounds on holes 12 and 13 have been removed and is no longer a local rule. Play the ball as it lies on those two holes from now on. The Alaska Golf Association provided the rerate and informed us the slope was lowered one point for the Men. The Albatross is closed for the 2019 season. The yard games Croquet, Bocce Ball, Corn Hole, Chippo and Giant Jinga have been put away for winter.
We look forward to "Enhancing your Experience" again in 2020.
